How do I get started learning to play piano?

I’ve always found it interesting to play piano, but I think I will like it. I do not want to invest hundreds upon hundreds of dollars into it. I would prefer to start out with something cheap like a keyboard and learn via an instructional book. What should I get? I was at Target and saw a keyboard with fewer keys than the piano style. Is there a difference? I would like to mock a real piano electronically as much as possible. What are the best books to learn? What should I buy? I dont know anything about music!
GET A TEACHER FOR A LITTLE WHILE TO TEACH YOU THE BASICS.
Buy the John Tompsan piano books if you can.
"Teaching little fingers how to play”
Or buy a CD-ROM that teaches you a little. You can buy them at a book store or a music store.
You can find a friend that is generous. He must own a piano or an electric piano and have about 2yrs of learning the piano.
he might teach you a little of the piano and not charge you at all.

I play piano
Try getting a keyboard with all the keys. This will make it easier on you when you have a real piano. If there is a music store nearby, go to it and ask a sales associate if they can help you pick out a lesson book that’s right for you.

well if i were u i would buy dvds or cds from shops or stores on how to play the piano. But if ur like me I asked my music teacher at school and he gave me a begginers sheet on the piona i av at home i write on each key a toc then atoc till mit covers all the keys. Then the song sheet has music notes and letters i follow the letters and play the song. Then I asked my teacher to help me and he did. BUt i would have preferred lessons.

It depends on how serious you are about learning piano and how far you want to advance. What I’d recommend if you want to use a keyboard is start out a medium sized one (they normally have around 40-60 keys). However, in around 6 months you’ll start needing a full size weighted keyboard/piano with pedal, which has 88 keys. Also, the easiest thing to do is to find a piano teacher. Many don’t charge that much, especially student teachers. Your teacher will tell you what books to buy. This is the easiest way to go and you’ll advance a lot faster.

I think you should learn with a piano teacher for awhile until you know how to play and see if you like it. Buy a medium size keyboard at first and if you like learning piano you could get a small piano for a few thousand dollars.

Well I think that you should either get a keyboard at costco or sams club. then look for an online thing to teach you the notes (A-G is best, not Do-Ti), there are lots on youtube.

well, my mom had a piano since before I was born. 5 years ago i started taking lessons and I was so interested that I got my own keyboard. The best thing about getting a keyboard at costco or sams club is that they are cheap and if something goes wrong you can take it back for all the money you spent on it.
