When you decide to learn how to play the piano, there are three approaches to it. Below are the ways that anybody, especially the adults, can learn how to play one of the grandest musical instruments ever.

Learn by Ear

This is the easiest way of learning piano. Why? All you have to do is listen to a piece and translate it on the keyboard. You don’t need to read anything. You don’t need to see the music piece. You don’t even need formal instructions. All you need is a good ear and a very good key sense in order to apply what you hear to the piano keys.

With the way you learn music pieces, you know that you also need a very good memory. Why? Since you can not read music, you need to memorize exactly how the music is played. You need to memorize the key progressions, sequencing, and the like.

Learning by ear is easy and cheap, however, it also has a lot of disadvantages. The first is that you do not have any understanding of the music you are playing. You may be playing a music piece but that’s only it. The second disadvantage is that you won’t be able to play another music piece unless you hear and learn another one. The third disadvantage is that this method of learning is often difficult for those who learn visually.

Learn thru Music Reading

This is, by far, the most traditional way of learning how to play the piano. In this way, you have to learn the basics of reading music. Why? It allows you to really learn the language of music by learning the notes.

In this method, you need to learn each note, how is it played, the symbols that are used in music pieces, as well as know how to apply all these on the piano keyboard.

As expected, this method is exhaustive and difficult. As a matter of fact, this method basically makes anyone have the feeling of learning another language- a feeling that is also a fact in itself.

The beauty of this method is that you will be able to apply music reading in playing other instruments. With music reading, learning how to play another instrument other than the piano will be a breeze for you. Also, with music reading, you will be able to have a very good grasp in the basics of piano playing that when you get to playing the difficult pieces, you won’t be having a hard time.

Learn thru Pentatonic Method

Learning how to play thru the pentatonic method simply means that you need to learn how to play the piano using the five note scale. Each of the five notes corresponds to each of the five black keys in the piano keyboard. In this way, you are able to learn how to play by ear while at the same time know a bit of music reading. This method of piano learning is actually a combination of the two other methods.

The pentatonic method of learning piano is very good for those who are aural, visual, or tactile in their learning. Also, this method is easy and quick. It cuts down to the basics and makes you learn what is only necessary.
