Can I take piano lessons and use a keyboard at home?

I want to learn to play the piano.
I’d take lessons somewhere, a school where there’s a piano.
However, I don’t have the money to buy my own and practice back at home. I thought about buying an electric keyboard instead (which are 150-200$), and to practice on that back at home. Will my … learning … still be effective?
If not I’ll just learn the guitar instead or something.
Thanks
YES - for now. My husband has several private students who are in your situation now. Get the MOST keys you can - at least 61, 76 is better, 88 is best. You can find keyboards ALL over for almost free - check Goodwill, Sal. Army, Craigslist, etc. Some have speakers built in - some need headphones or an amp. Good luck.

For a time, this is a fine alternative to a real piano. However after a certain amount of time, your skills will surpass (or fail to surpass, because of) the electric piano you have, and you will have to consider buying an acoustic. Why not see if you can practice at your school?
Best of luck!

Yes you can, but as time goes by you’ll need a piano. Look for used ones.

First, look at Craigslist and ebay. Many people have a distorted perception of how much a good used piano will cost. You can often find them for $200 or so in decent condition. Otherwise, don’t let finances stop you. Having a teacher is more important than a top-of-the-line instrument, especially when first learning.
